Project Overview

The first branch of Toqa Café, completed in August 2024 in Sib, Muscat, introduces a refined blend of minimalism and warmth inspired by Japandi aesthetics. Designed as both a welcoming neighborhood café and a contemporary lifestyle destination, the space harmonizes Japanese simplicity with Scandinavian elegance, creating a serene and inviting environment for coffee lovers.

Design Concept

The design philosophy embraces minimalism, functionality, and a sense of calm. Natural materials, clean lines, and a neutral palette form the foundation, while large windows allow natural light to flood the interiors. Warm tones, organic textures, and thoughtful lighting connect the space to nature, ensuring an atmosphere that feels both stylish and comfortable. Seating arrangements were carefully planned to accommodate both individuals and groups, balancing efficiency with a relaxed café experience.

Materials & Atmosphere

A curated material palette enhances the café’s Japandi character. Light oak and walnut wood bring warmth and natural richness, contrasted by matte black metal details and brushed steel elements for modern definition. Matte white walls and soft beige surfaces keep the space bright and airy, while rattan details, greenery, and natural stone textures add grounding and comfort. Corian surfaces provide durability and seamless refinement. Together, these materials create a harmonious balance of minimalism and hospitality.

Branding & Details

Every element was designed to reflect the Toqa brand ethos. Coffee bean dispensers, menu layouts, and display units were integrated into the overall design using natural finishes and simple forms. Branding elements are subtly incorporated through signage, packaging, and fixtures, reinforcing identity without overpowering the minimalist aesthetic.

Exterior Design

The Sib branch features a minimalist façade defined by smooth white finishes, large glass windows framed in matte black metal, and subtle signage for brand visibility. Planter boxes and wooden benches soften the frontage and create a welcoming atmosphere for passersby. The café also includes a drive-thru designed for functionality and efficiency, integrating ordering systems seamlessly into the overall architecture without compromising aesthetics.
